What Types of Cracks Can Be Treated?

Crack filling is not a substitute for replacing failed asphalt.
What Is the Difference Between Hot-Pour and Cold-Pour Crack Filling?
Hot-pour crack sealant is heated and applied using equipment intended for the selected product.
Cold-pour crack filler is applied without the same hot-melt process.
The appropriate material depends on the crack condition, pavement use, manufacturer requirements and project specifications.
Neither method is suitable for every pavement defect.
Should Cracks Be Filled Before Sealcoating?
Crack treatment is generally coordinated before sealcoating when both services are part of the same maintenance project.
This allows the cracks to be addressed before the surface coating is applied.
The work sequence and curing requirements depend on the selected products.
Can You Fill Cracks After a Parking Lot Has Been Sealcoated?
In some cases, crack filling can be performed after sealcoating, but product compatibility, surface condition and the presence of existing sealer within the cracks must be considered.
The application should follow the crack filler manufacturer’s requirements.
A site evaluation may be needed before selecting a treatment.
When Does a Crack Need Asphalt Repair Instead?
Cracks associated with loose, broken, displaced or structurally failed pavement may require patching or more extensive repair.
Applying crack filler alone will not restore the strength of failed asphalt.
